Five years ago the zany Sanders Family created Red Carpet Community Theatre, Elk City, into the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and shared their stories and gospel music with Western Oklahoma 1940 style, known as “Smoke On the Mountain”. They returned for “Sanders’ Family Christmas” entertaining us again during the 2004 holiday season. Now Red Carpet Community Theatre invites you to the “Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming”, as they return to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church after WWII, with typical Sanders’ Family antics and good gospel music.
The production opens Monday, June 23, 7:30 p.m. running nightly through Sunday, June 29, with a Saturday and Sunday 2:30 p.m. matinee. This Branson style production is entertaining for all ages.
The ladies of the original two productions are back in full swing. Cast as Vera Sanders is Denise Parman, of Cheyenne; portraying her daughters are Julie Barnett, of Sentinel, as June; and Tiphani Currell-Haraughty, of Elk City, as Denise. Reprising as Burl Sanders is Chris Crabtree, of Clinton, and Patrick Spillers, Elk City, as Uncle Stanley. New to the cast is Joshua Dodd, of Hammon, as Pastor Oglethorpe, and Carson Guthrie, Elk City, as Dennis. Direction is by Chris Crabtree, and Sheryl Waters, OKC, is accompanist.
